Clinical skills and experience
· Assessment, interpretation and clinical application of past and present anthropometric, biochemical, pharmacological, medical, social, educational, financial, psychological and nutritional factors
· Identifying excesses or deficiencies in intake relating to disease state
· Identifying barriers to optimal nutritional intake; identifying barriers to optimal antiretroviral therapy adherence and drug-nutrient interactions
· Responsible for providing highly specialised advice to clients within a particular specialty including: Weight management, Diabetes, Renal, Oncology, Critical care, Cardiac and respiratory, HIV, Surgical, Care of the elderly and neurological medicine. This includes nutritional assessment, dietary counselling, motivational interviewing, negotiating targets, developing care plans and communicating these with relevant health and other care agencies on a one to one basis and to groups.
· Work in a multidisciplinary team
· Provide nutrition counselling, using advocacy services when appropriate, to communicate with the diverse multicultural population where there are barriers to communication.
· Planning, organisation and delivery of education and clinical updating on dietetic practices for medical, nursing and support staff.
· Development of nutritional education materials in collaboration with other dietitians which is evidence based and taking into consideration barriers to communication
· Responsible for planning and organising continuing care for patients in the community, this may include the arranging of complex packages of care; responsible for commenting, implementing and proposing changes to policies and procedures in own area of work.
